Amazing Double Chocolate Banana Brownies
These rich chocolate brownies are grain and refined sugar free.
I love banana bread and I love brownies. These bars are the perfect marriage of those two yummy treats. The cacao powder and chips double the chocolate flavor. Mashed ripe bananas add sweetness and creates a moist crumb.
As a child I can’t remember eating a homemade brownie that didn’t come from a box. While those treats are ok sometimes, I love the idea that desserts can also be ‘real food’ not packed with sugar. Almond flour and egg add protein, while the cacao powder is high in antioxidants, magnesium (and joy)! What could be better than healthy and delicious?
Double Chocolate Banana Brownies Ingredients 4 large eggs (room temp) 4 small ripe bananas or 3 large ones, mashed 2 tbsp maple syrup 2 tsp vanilla extract 1/4 cup liquid coconut oil 1 3/4 cups almond flour (I use Kirkland) 1/2 cup tapioca flour 1/2 cup cacao powder (I use Nativa) 1 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp baking powder 1/4 tsp sea salt 1/2 cup (plus a few for sprinkling on top) chocolate chips (I use Lily's ) Method line a 9x9 or 8x8 pan with parchment. Preheat oven to 350 F Mash the bananas in a large bowl. Add the eggs, maple syrup, and vanilla. Mix and well combined. In another bowl whisk (or use a fork) to combine the almond flour, tapioca flour, cacao, soda, powder and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the egg and banana mixture. Stir until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips. Pour and spread the batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle with a few chips. Bake for 25 mins or until set in the center. Let cool and sprinkle with flaky sea salt before cutting and serving.
